Send These Kids to Mexico!

The Kids Are Calling...

Join me in supporting a group of young people on a mission to serve.

Holamigos! Y Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

The first quarter of this year has flown right by! A few months back, I composed a (quite lengthy) annual letter recounting the exciting journeys of 2022 — and now we’re somehow almost halfway through 2023!

I’ve begun sending out physical copies of that tome, and I’ll soon format it into an email for this list. I also have a follow-up scan scheduled on May 17th, which I’ll share more about in another blast. For now, though, I’m writing with a brief and timely call for support from a dear friend.

My buddy Dana — the same wonderful human who started my healing fundraiser when I was struggling through chemo — is organizing a life-changing service trip to Oaxaca, Mexico, with a group of her high school Spanish students. And they need your help!

In June, Dana and a couple of chaperones (hopefully including myself!) will lead a delegation of future leaders to spend ten days volunteering with Oaxaca Streetchildren, a grassroots nonprofit that educates, feeds and cares for over 650 children, most of whom live in extreme poverty in this struggling area of Mexico.

Dana and her student volunteers plan to spend several days supporting and serving the kids at the “Centro Esperanza Infantil” (the Center of Hope for Children), located in downtown Oaxaca, by cooking meals, teaching workshops, and engaging in cultural exchange with them — and they are currently fundraising to make this service trip a reality.

I’ve told my friend that I’d be honored to share this link — and this opportunity to be of service — with my wonderful team of friends, family, and retired Cancer Bandits.

Will you make a donation to support this worthy cause today?

Any extra funds raised will go directly to increasing the group’s direct monetary support for Oacaxa Streetchildren Grassroots. You can read more about this powerfully impactful organization at https://oaxacastreetchildren.org. Every peso helps!

You can learn more about the aims of this student group by visiting their GoFundMe page, and by viewing this article about their planned trip published in the Sonoma County Gazette

Here is an excerpt from that article:

Thanks for taking a moment to read this message and consider this request. And sorry it has taken me so long to reach out! I’ve had my hands full with some exciting creative and life-organization projects, and I look forward to sharing some additional updates soon.

As always, thanks for being you!

You do it better than anyone else : )

Much love,

Nils
